Every year since 2008, XXL Magazine has selected 10 up-and-coming rappers to grace its cover and be known as that year’s XXL Freshmen (the 2011 list featured 11 emcees for the first time). 

This year, XXL has announced that “the deliberations for XXL’s 2012 Freshmen class are underway (but no where near finished) and this year things are gonna be a little different. For the fifth annual cover, XXL will be selecting nine of the Freshmen and the public will vote on our online poll to determine who gets the 10th slot-the People’s Choice… The winner will be revealed on the April cover.”

Fans can now vote (daily, I believe) for their selection from a field of 50 young emcees on the rise, and two of them are from Chicago: Rockie Fresh and brandUn DeShay. What do you think of the field of 50?
